Bayview, Candlestick Point, Hunters Point
Named after the decommissioned Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, this neighborhood is located on the southeastern part of San Francisco. A historic neighborhood, four buildings including the Bayview Opera House, Quinn House, the Albion Brewery, and the Sylvester House, are listed on the California Registry of Historic Places. Plans to revitalize areas the neighborhood started in the 2000s, investing in local education, transportation, retail and housing. Candlestick stadium was recently torn down making room for 12,000 new homes and apartments, retail areas, office buildings, and 300 acres of open space. This new revitalization project is being called The San Francisco Shipyard, which will take place over an expansive area including Hunters Point, Candlestick Point, and Bayview.
Known as one of the most ethnically diverse regions of San Francisco where many of the streets are named after international capitals and countries, the Excelsior neighborhood is located south of Interstate 280 and west of Interstate 101. Affordable housing and rental prices make Excelsior popular with residents commuting to work in San Francisco or in the South Bay.
